I went to the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale back in 2001. I majored in Computer Animation and spent a year on campus before changing majors. The only downside to the school is that the cost is much higher than state universities. Other than the cost there were many great things about the school that I liked. Once of which is the career assistance center. One of my friends graduated 3 months before I left the school and the career assistance center actually got him interviews where he actually landed a job as an animator. They also helped me find part time work at a nearby restaurant so that I could have some income while I went to school. I had my own apartment but they did have on campus dorms and a service that helped students find room mates and apartments.
The school was relatively small and it’s contained in one large building and every education field is taught there. There aren’t that many students attending the school compared to state universities so there is a lot of parking available. You do get a smaller class size and more attention with the instructors. The instructors are very helpful and stay after class and keep office hours to help students who have more questions.
Often people who work in your field of study come to teach and or visit the classrooms and give students insight on the industry and how to get ready for applying the education to the real world. In my degree field for example we had a Disney animator that came down to Fort Lauderdale every Saturday to teach and fly back to Orlando to work in the week. If you can overcome the cost, it’s a great school to be at.
