Juris Doctor (JD)

Juris Doctor (JD) is the official name given to a degree holding professional lawyer, also known as an attorney. Lawyers handle the research, interviewing, trials, and disputes at both a civil and criminal level surrounding common societal issues such as real estate, divorce, bankruptcy and environmental law. Lawyers are literally the backbone of society's orderly system and thus, a JD degree is one of the most prestigious titles one can hold. Acceptance into law school varies depending on the school's admission standards. JD hopefuls will need to have a bachelor's degree in a relative field and pass the LSAT admission test. To obtain a JD you will need to undergo three years of law school and pass the Bar Exam at the end. Lawyers make an average of $102,000 per year with entry level law graduates averaging $60,000 their first year on the job.
