School Counseling & Psychology

School counselors and psychologists work in public or private elementary, middle, and secondary schools in order to help children. School counselors typically assist students with class selection, college choice, and vocational or career options. Counselors at this level are required to have a master's degree in school or education counseling, in addition to passing licensing examinations. School psychologists, on the other hand, help children and their parents deal with behavioral and mental health issues. Psychologists are typically required to hold a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in child or adolescent psychology, and must pass licensing exams as well. Employment for school psychologists is expected to increase by 16 percent by the year 2016, while jobs for school counselors should see a 13 percent rise.
