When a disaster of any type hits, emergency management personnel are those who are trained to react to the situation quickly and efficiently and to help those in need. Town evacuations and emergency supply distribution are just two examples of the types of jobs these professionals perform. Emergency Management degrees prepare students for professions including dispatchers, policemen, firefighters, Red Cross employees and counselors. There are many different types of Emergency Management degrees to choose from, but in most cases, students are expected to take courses in emergency planning and risk assessment. Emergency management professionals usually work for volunteer organizations, governments, non-profits schools and hospitals. Salaries for Emergency Management professionals can range from about $30,000 for dispatchers to more than $70,000 for fire chiefs and those in more specialized emergency management jobs.
