Ask a Question
Fashion designers create the concepts for clothing, shoes, and accessories, and aim to set the trends for what will become popular. Merchandisers deal with the business aspect of the fashion industry, such as the best way to market, advertise, and attract attention to the products the designers create. Designers and merchandisers typically attend a two or four year program at an institution which specializes in fashion, such as the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. The states which employ the most fashion designers in the United States are New York and California. Jobs in this industry will grow by about five percent by the year 2016.
