Sonographers, also known as ultrasound technicians, use ultrasound high frequency sound waves to produce images of internal bodily tissues used to diagnose health conditions. Sonographers explain procedures to patients, operate the machinery, process and analyze sonographic data, and provide summaries of findings to physicians. Job prospects are strong, in part because sonography is increasingly seen as an attractive alternative to radiologic procedures. Median salary is over $60,000. If you interact well with people, are interested in joining the medical profession, and have a technological bent, then a comprehensive diagnostic medical sonography program (ranging from one to four years) is a potentially rewarding next step.

What requirement do you have to have to get degree in ultrasound tech?

You can get an ultra sound technician degree through programs that are offered by community colleges, hospitals and universities. Most programs average 1-2 years to finish. A strong background in natural sciences, algebra and basic physics is needed for admission to most of these programs.

How many hours would I work in a week?

Full-time sonographers typically work 40 hours a week, although those employed by hospitals may have to work in the evening or on the weekend. Also they may be required to report to work on a short notice if needed.

how long do you have to go to college for unltrasound technician?

In most settings, an associate degree and professional certification is required. Most programs take two to three years to complete.
