My son went to this school, took heating and air.He got a completion certificate and his HVAC cert for 12k+ would not even let him keep the books, though He was told he could. No help getting work, not one person is working in this field from his class.Teachers were sub-pare and that's being kind. All these people want is your money.Would never recommend to anyone!!
I had attended this school in 2001 and at that time this school was extremely good. I held a 4.0 Gpa and graduated with honors and perfect attendance. I believe that the school worked harder to help me find a good paying job because the staff saw how dedicated I was. I came to school well dressed, and stayed dedicated.I found the classes to be easy to understand and fun.
The instructors also worked at Fresno City, and worked at IT as a second job. I found a job within a month working for a mortgage company making pretty decent money. I believe that some people arent finding jobs because the economy is so bad right now, but if you want it, go after it.
Dont wait on the school to do it for you. They have you and 100's of other students that they are trying to place. Be your own leader, dont play follow the leader.
Please, I urge you....do your homework. Ask the school how many sign-up for the culinary program, how many graduate on time, how many drop out. They will provide something in writing, but ask them to quantify these questions. Then ask them why they feel the AOS is worth the cost ($30K). Do they really think a chef in Sacramento can pay this financial aid back? Be aware that this cost will accrue interest and depending on the type of loan, will eventually cost more than double. Are you prepared to pay double? Don't let them talk you into the AOS, the credits are not transferable and the trip to Europe isn't worth the $. You can take yourself to Italy, Spain and the south of France for a lot less.
Also, talk to the instructors and ask them to be very honest about the program. My instructor (name withheld to protect identity) advised me the AOS program isn't worth it. The instructors who teach it need to be fired. So, I changed my contract to the shorter program. Then, after two weeks and a keen business mind, cancelled the contract. That's right; their contract gives you 7 days from the first class to cancel. I cancelled the AOS signed a new contract for the shorter class and got another 7 days to make my mind up about the program. It just doesn't make good business sense.
Let's face it, is a chef or business owner of New Orleans, Miami, Los Angeles or San Francisco really going to appreciate it when you tell them you attended Institute of Technology in Roseville, CA? No, IOT will not hold the weight of Le Cordon Bleu, even if it's Le Cordon Blue Sacramento. You are much better off attending Community College. Infact, most CC's have good programs and are better known in the industry to provide quality training.
Good luck and do your homework before you sign-up with IOT. P.S. they recruit convicts, as most restaurants do not require a background check, so culinary is a good job for ex-convicts. This is true for most kitchens. Be prepared and informed about the cost and clientele.
Don't waste your money. They do not help you at all to find a job or even to where to apply for jobs. They say call around, see who is hiring, and then they will fax your resume for you??? Like you can't do that? Of all the classes that graduated this past year, I don't know anyone that has been able to find a job as as medical assistant..and the school doesn't care after you graduate as long as they get paid. And just so you know-I am not the student-I am the parent that wasted the money although my child now has a job that they found on their own oh but not as a med assistant.
