I really enjoyed the fact that I was able to get a college education from the comfort of my own home. Due to my work schedule a traditional campus was not an option for me and I thought I would never be able to get a college degree and then to find I could get one in less than 2 years was a dream come true. The books were mailed right to my door. The books were very informative to the courses that I was taking.
I am not sure if its the same for all schools but our courses were only 5 weeks long. In reality how are you going to learn everything you need to know about a subject in 5 weeks? Several classes we were to read 3 chapters in 1 week, have assignments, discussion posts, and a test. All of the courses were really rushed. I made good grades only because the book was wide open the whole time. So much information with very little time to grasp it. There were discussion boards which allowed us to talk to our classmates. Another thing I didn't like was they gave you projects as a team. I we have different lifestyles, study habbits, and live all over the world how can we work on a project together. One class I had to contact my instructor and ask that one person be removed from my team because they was not doing their part and couldn't be contacted. It wasn't write for them to get a grade for something they didn't contribute in.
I did learn a bits of information on a variety of subjects but not as much as I should have for the price it cost me. I took beginner, intermediate, and advanced MS Office. Made a 4.0 in all courses. I went to take the test to get certified for Word and Excel and failed both tests twice. After failing they asked me what did I feel was the problem. I told them the questions on the certification test wasn't taught in my class. In reality they picked out stuff to teach you and the rest you have to learn on your own because the classes were only 5 weeks long. After graduating I am now going back over my courses one by one and actually reading the text books to learn what I didn't learn in school.
I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and to think there is so much that I don't know that I should. ECPI is more less concentrating on people getting their degree ASAP and sooner than other colleges, which is important to most people. I now look back and wish I had chosen a different school that the courses were longer to give me time to actually learn the material before moving on to something else. This was an expensive price to pay for something I am not happy with. I kinda feel like it was a waste of my time. I am now searching into other colleges online so that I can continue my education but I am more educated now than I was then about what is best for me and my future needs.
