Accounting
Accountants are in demand; businesses large and small in every industry require their services. Becoming an accountant usually requires students to earn a bachelor's degree; in addition, most states require 150 credit hours at an accredited college or university before a student can become a CPA. CPAs (Certified Public Accountants) have the most job flexibility, since accountants must be CPAs in order to file with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) on behalf of their employers. Some accountants choose to pursue master's degrees, such as an Accounting MBA (Master's in Business Administration) or MST (Master's of Science in Taxation), in order to augment their career options. Accountants earn a median salary of $54,630 and, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, job growth is expected to be good.
